NYU / Stern MBA Admissions Interview Questions: Round 1/ Adcom / On Campus
I interviewed as part of the Women’s Interview Day, so arrived on campus mid afternoon and was ushered into a room with current students and other interviewees. Given a folder of brochures specifically related to my interests, and after a few minutes were taken down to the career services office. Had flashbacks to undergrad recruiting. The overall feeling was welcoming, they were excited to have us (large group of female interviewees) there. The questions as best I can remember: 1. Tell me what you like to do in your free time. 2. What has been your most significant accomplishment

NYU / Stern MBA Admissions Interview Questions: Round 1 / Adcom / On Campus
I applied to Stern for Round 1 and was given the opportunity to interview on my own or as part of Stern’s Spotlight on Women in Business/Stern’s Women in Business Conference. I decided to attend the conference since I was interested in hearing the speakers and I thought it would be a good opportunity to meet students, faculty, and other prospective students. Day 1 included a half hour interview with an admissions representative followed by a coffee chat, roundtable discussion, evening reception, and a ticket to Stern’s weekly Beer Blast. Because there were many people attending this event, we were

NYU / Stern MBA Admissions Interview Questions: Round 2 / Adcom / On-Campus
I got there 20 min early. The receptionist gave me the t-shirt and folder tailored to my interests that all other interviewees seem to mention. The adcom who was interviewing me was nice, however little time was spent on introducing ourselves which made it hard to relate to her. The interview felt like an interrogation rather than an interview maybe it was because the adcom was doing the interview rather than students like at other schools. She took my transcript at the end. Questions were as follows, although not in this order: 1. How would you get involved at Stern?

NYU / Stern MBA Admissions Interview Questions: Round 1/ Adcom/ On Campus
Got there 20-30min early and knew where to go from a previous tour. The receptionist gave me the t shirt and folder tailored to my interests that all other interviewees seem to mention. The adcom who was interviewing me was very friendly and we spent a good amount of time just introducing ourselves first. She took my transcript right away, so definitely do not forget that one. Questions were as follows, although not in this order: 1. How did you come to work for XYZ? 2. What is your proudest work related accomplishment? 3. How did you choose

NYU / Stern MBA Admissions Interview Questions: Round 2/ Ad Com/ On-Campus
My admissions representative was extremely friendly and personable. Similar to other Stern interviews described here, they gave me a packet of information and tee-shirt after checking in, and had a glass of water waiting for me in the office. The other admissions counselors coming out to greet their applicants seemed as equally friendly and welcoming as mine. I got the general sense that Stern isn’t trying to trip anyone up with their interview, but views it as a chance to learn more about the applicant and for the applicant to learn more about the school. The interview was behavioral in

NYU / Stern MBA Admissions Interview Questions: Round 1 / Adcom / On-Campus
I applied R1 and had my interview earlier this week. I arrived at the admissions office 15 minutes early. There’s a coat closet where you can hang up your coat and store any small bags you may have brought with you. Similar to last year’s reports, after I checked in I received an NYU Stern t-shirt and a folder tailored to areas of my interest (i.e. Stern Women in Business fact sheet, etc). My interviewer came out to greet me right on time and we chatted as we walked towards her office. It was a pretty friendly conversation and the

Admissions Director Q&A: Isser Gallogly of New York University’s Stern School of Business
Our 2014 Admissions Director Q&A with Isser Gallogly of NYU Stern is now available.
Isser Gallogly, assistant dean of MBA admissions at New York University’s Stern School of Business, understands the MBA and its potential for changing people’s lives first hand. “I am on my third career,” he told us in an interview. He worked in banking after college and then returned to business school to obtain an MBA as part of a career shift toward marketing. After almost a decade working for Unilever and Loreál, he decided to shift again toward education and academia. “I know how much an MBA has changed my life both personally and professionally, and helping others on that journey seemed to me to be a very gratifying job opportunity,” he said.
In the interview that follows, he talks about the mission of the Stern School under Dean Peter Henry and a new Essay 2 for full-time applicants, as well as some of the things he thinks not all prospective applicants know about Stern. And if Stern is one of your target schools, you’ll want to pay close attention to the very detailed explanation Gallogly provides of the admissions process at Stern, including his emphasis on the importance of the interview. So read on and be prepared!

NYU / Stern MBA Admissions Interview Questions: Round 2 / On Campus
I applied R2 and had my interview about a week ago. The admissions staff was very friendly and give you a free T-shirt when you show up. The questions that were asked of me: Tell me more about your creative essay Do you have family or friends in NYC? or in the industry you’re looking to pursue? You visited Stern before? What did you think? So why do you want to change careers? Why specifically that career change? How do you feel that you’ve overcome assumptions people had about you? What is your driving force? NYU / Stern MBA Admissions Interview Questions: Round 2 (Admitted) / On Campus / Adcom
My NYU Stern Interview experience was very friendly and conversational. I actually felt like we spent an equal amount of time evaluating if I was a good fit for Stern and vice versa (see #3 below) My questions consisted of: Walk me through your resume Please tell me about your three greatest achievements. Detailed follow-up questions The interviewer then talked about all of the great things Stern was doing in social entrepreneurship (my field of interest) and the new Dean’s vision. She asked me if I had heard about some of these specific programs (explaining the programs when I didn’t

I interviewed during the afternoon of March 5th, sandwiched between a class visit and tour of the Kaufman Center. Applied January 14th and invited to interview on March 1st. My interview was with an assistant admissions director, who was familiar with my application and essays. It was a very casual discussion about my interests and why Stern is the right choice for me. First question was in regards to an interest from my resume. Tell me how you ended up in your first job out of undergrad. Tell me about something you love about what you currently do at your

I went to campus and this was my second time there. I was a reapplicant from last year that got waitlisted. The atmosphere was friendly, and the tone of the interview was very conversational. My interviewer had read my application (I think from both years) and was just asking the basic questions of what changed, why Stern, etc. I did a lunch with a current student afterwards but I would recommend doing this first because those are v. laid back and a good way to get info. Questions asked: Why MBA? What are your career goals? Why Stern? (a lot

The Stern interview seems to be remarkably consistent. Talked a bit about my travels to NYC and when I was leaving, what I had planned for the city I noticed this [hobby]. Tell me about that. Why Stern? Why MBA? How will Stern help you achieve your career plans? Tell me about your progression since college? Why do you want to go to school in New York? How do you feel about living in New York? How would your supervisor describe you? How would your subordinates describe you? Is there anything we haven’t touched on that you would like me

NYU / Stern MBA Admissions Interview Questions: Round 2 / On Campus / Adcom
I interviewed on campus, and luckily, because I attended their Discover Stern Weekend I had been previously introduced to the interviewer. That gave me the option to meet one professor, attend a mock class, several students, and view Stern in both an academic and social setting. I would HIGHLY recommend that anyone from the tri-state area take advantage of all similar opportunities before your interview, since I was able to use these experiences in the ‘why stern’ question. You just seem lazy if you don’t (as told to me from current students). Here are some questions I was asked: How

NYU / Stern MBA Admissions Interview Questions: Round 2 / On-Campus / Adcom / Accepted
My story is a little different, because I was invited to interview as part of the Stern Spotlight on Women event. There were ~60 of us there (I think mostly Round 1, and then a few of us Round 2s who got our applications in a few weeks early). So, as part of the day, I did my interview, then had a class and tour and roundtable event with students. So while I was greeted with a packet of information related to my interests, the tshirt came at the end of the day after it was all over. Started like

NYU / Stern MBA Admissions Interview Questions: Round 1 / On-Campus / Adcom
You are greeted with a t-shirt and a packet of information related to your interests. For myself it was Entertainment and Stern Women in Business. My interviewer came out a few minutes late to greet me, a member of the AdCom, and we made small talk on our way to the office about my trip to NYC. The interviewer started out by asking me about one of my interests listed on my resume. From there the interview became more like a job interview with very directed questions: Tell me about your job progression what are your strengths/weaknesses Why MBA now?

You are greeted with a personalize packet with items that you are interested in. Mine had a club focused on Tennis, Racket ball, and Squash. I guess they thought my interest in Badminton was close enough. And you are also “awarded” a free NYU Stern T-shirt, available in most sizes. I was then called a few minutes earlier than the scheduled time. I think overall my interview was very friendly and conversational, and it lasted around 45 minutes like some of the others noted below. There was a lot of chitchat both before and after the formal interview as we

I was greeted with a packet of program information based on my career preference, and they also gave me a Stern t-shirt, like others mentioned earlier. After some initial chitchat of how I got to the city, we went straight to the interview: She started by asking how I developed the hobby I mentioned in my third essay. My career progression / roles in my job. Describe/justify my career goal. What to do if I could not get the summer internship I wanted. How would my friends describe myself? Describe a challenging client situation. How would I decide which MBA
