Students, Faculty Stand in Unity at Ross Black Lives Matter Gathering

In silence, students, staff and faculty at the University of Michigan’s Stephen M. Ross School Of Business spoke volumes. Standing together on the afternoon of Monday, September 26th, dressed in all black, the group unified behind signs of Black Lives Matter and #Ross4Change, sending a powerful, cohesive message. Chicago’s McGowan Charitable Fund Announces 7th Class of Fellows

Since 2010, the William G. McGowan Charitable Fund has been naming 10 outstanding second-year MBA students as members of its annual class of McGowan Fellows. The fund was created and named in honor of William G. McGowan, an American business leader and founder of MCI Communications, following his passing in 1992. The selected fellows join a prestigious group of alumni from some of the best business schools around the United States. One fellow is chosen annually from each of 10 partner business schools. Leading Business Schools Pilot GMAC’s Common Letter of Recommendation

Asking your supervisor or former supervisor to take time out of his or her busy schedule to write a letter of recommendation on your behalf is one of the most challenging aspects of the MBA admissions process for many applicants. Now try asking that person to write five different letters, answering five different sets of questions, for the five different schools you’re applying to. Sounds insane, right? And yet it’s precisely the position many prospective MBA applicants find themselves in. Real Humans of MBA Admissions: Soojin Kwon of Michigan’s Ross School of Business

Moving right along with our fun and quirky series, we’ve continued talking admissions directors at leading MBA programs into answering our silly stream of personal questions. To our delight, we’ve had many tell us that they actually had fun in the process. Soojin Kwon has led MBA admissions at the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business since 2006. She’s familiar with “non-traditional” MBA candidates, as she was one herself when she got her MBA at Ross. Prior to b-school, she used her MPP from the Kennedy School of Government to work as a budget and policy analyst on Capitol Hill and at the Department of Commerce. She’s also familiar with the private sector as she spent her post-MBA years as a consultant in Deloitte’s Strategy and Operations practice. Pride@Kellogg Edges Out Columbia’s Cluster Q to Win Fourth Annual MBA Ally Challenge

LGBTQ student clubs at the Kellogg School of Management, Columbia Business School and Michigan’s Ross School of Business led the pack this year as 13 leading business schools competed in the fourth annual MBA Ally Challenge, a competition hosted by nonprofit organization Friendfactor to recognize efforts to encourage straight students to become visible and active allies in their campus communities. Pride@Kellogg won with a score of 75 out of a possible 100 points for the social, educational and community events it held promoting allyship throughout the year. Columbia’s Cluster Q was a very close second, followed by Out for Business at Ross. For its first-place showing, Pride@Kellogg will receive a $5,000 prize and on-stage recognition at the Reaching Out MBA (ROMBA) Conference in October. Read more

Dean-to-Be Q&A: Ross’s D. Scott DeRue

Last week, the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business announced that a new dean has been appointed to succeed Alison Davis-Blake when her term comes to an end on June 30th. Taking the reins is 39-year-old D. Scott DeRue, who joined the Ross faculty in 2007 as an assistant professor of management and has since gone on to lead the school’s executive education, part-time MBA and executive MBA programs. Michigan’s Ross School of Business Appoints Insider as New Dean

A celebrated professor who helped lead the school’s executive education program to its best performance in a decade will be the next dean of the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business, effective July 1st, the school announced today. The school’s Board of Regents today approved a five-year appointment for D. Scott DeRue, who is currently the Gilbert and Ruth Whitaker Professor of Business Administration, associate dean for executive education and professor of management and organizations at the Ross School. He succeeds Dean Alison Davis-Blake, who will complete her five-year term at the end of June. Read more

There is only one on-campus interview day for Round 3, and there were about 45 people there.
