Fridays from the Frontline: An Open Letter to Donald Trump from Members of Wharton’s Community

As anyone who has had even half an ear open to U.S. politics knows, presidential candidate Donald Trump has been quick to cite his affiliation with the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. In an open letter to Trump shared via Facebook recently, a contingent of Wharton students, alumni and faculty chose to express their thoughts on Trump’s candidacy as it relates to the school’s diverse community. Clear Admit’s own roots stretch back to the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School—where co-founders Graham Richmond and Eliot Ingram both received their MBAs and Richmond went on to work in the Wharton Admissions Office. Push-Up Throw Down Sweeps Business Schools, Raising Awareness of Veteran Suicide

Veteran organizations at leading business schools are getting in on the latest challenge to sweep the internet—this time to raise awareness of the incidence of suicide among veterans. The #22PushupChallenge is so named to reflect statistics that suggest that 22 veterans, on average, commit suicide each day. Untreated or inadequately treated mental health issues such as post-traumatic stress (PTS) and traumatic brain injury (TBI) are often to blame. Christopher Molaro, co-director of alumni relations for the Wharton Veterans Club at the University of Pennsylvania and formerly a captain in the U.S. Army, acknowledges that some have questioned the accuracy of this number. “The 22 number is not substantiated and is debated, but the cause is less about the specific number, 22, and more about building momentum to change the perception of mental health,” he says. “Whether it’s 22 or one per day, it needs to be addressed.” Read more

Fridays from the Frontline: Having to Decide Between Multiple Schools

In last week’s Fridays from the Frontline, we circled back with an applicant who’d shared his admissions journey with us earlier in the process to see how it concluded. For this week’s post we did the same, checking in again with Natalie Neilson, who shared her application process here back in December. What we didn’t plan on was the fact that both of these applicants would reveal that they're heading off to the same school in the fall! But though both applicants ultimately chose Wharton, the processes they followed in arriving at that decision took different turns. The Growth of International Indian MBA Students

Increase in Indian MBA Students It shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that top MBA programs are being flooded with applications from Indian candidates. According to the Graduate Management Admission Council, the number of Indians taking the GMAT increased by nearly 20 percent from 2010 to 2012, and more than half of those GMAT scores were sent to American business schools. In fact, from 2012 to 2013 a total of 25,268 Indians took the GMAT, third in the world behind the United States (90,541) and China (53,005). Read more
