We recently had the opportunity to speak with Shelly Heinrich, the interim associate dean of MBA admissions at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business. She has capably stepped in to lead the team since Shari Hubert left to lead admissions at Duke’s Fuqua School of Business earlier this fall. Latest Georgetown McDonough Employment Stats Reveal Increasing Salaries, Strong Finance and Consulting Placements
No surprise: Georgetown MBAs are making bank! Latest Kellogg Employment Statistics Reveal Rising Interest in Tech
A record one in four—25 percent—of graduates from Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management Class of 2017 headed off into jobs in the technology field, according to the school’s most recent employment report, released earlier this month. That’s up from 22 percent last year and just 15 percent the year before and echoes a trend at many leading business schools this year. Career Services Director Q&A: NYU Stern Assistant Dean of Career Services Beth Briggs
NYU Stern School of Business earlier this month shared highlights from its Class of 2017 MBA Employment Report, revealing that Amazon hired more Stern graduates than any other company. It marked the first time that a technology company topped the school’s list of leading employers and is reflective of an overall trend of increasing numbers of Stern MBA graduates heading into technology. Olin MBA Brings Africa Into the Business Conversation
As a first-year MBA student at Washington University’s Olin Business School who was born and raised in Owerri, Nigeria, Ony Mgbeahurike saw a need to bring Africa into the business conversation. Real Humans of the Kellogg MBA Class of 2019
The official profile for the Class of 2019 at Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management reveals some interesting things about the students who, as of late this past summer, have called Evanston, Illinois, home. For starters, they’re a smart bunch. (Surprise.) The average GMAT score for this year’s incoming class was 732—four points higher than last year and the continuation of a multi-year increase that just five years ago had that same metric at 708. Harvard Business School Tops Bloomberg Businessweek Ranking for Third Consecutive Year
For the third straight year, Harvard Business School reigned supreme in the annual Bloomberg Businessweek “Best Business Schools” ranking, topping the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and MIT Sloan School of Management. Amazon Talks About Its Success and Recruiting at LBS
It's not that surprising to hear about Seattle-based Amazon recruiting from top U.S. MBA programs such as the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business, where it was the number-one recruiter in 2016, hiring 31 of the school's MBA grads. What might be more surprising is the fact that Amazon is also a big recruiter at London Business School (LBS), where it snapped up 13 Class of 2016 MBA graduates, right behind BCG, McKinsey, and Bain. When speaking to students and alumni at an LBS event, Doug Gurr, Amazon’s U.K. country manager, said, “The U.K. is an amazing location to recruit great talent, and LBS is somewhere we find the talent we need.” Read more

New Haas Center Seeks to Tackle Gender, Equity, and Leadership Head On
As one headline after another alleges sexual harassment against women by men in power from Hollywood to Congress, the launch earlier this month UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business of a new Center for Gender, Equity, and Leadership (CGEL) seems more timely than ever. In fact, the idea for the center significantly predated the current media firestorm—and while its scope will certainly include sexual harassment, it will be significantly wider—addressing issues ranging from the persistent gender pay gap to inadequate maternity leave to the fact that currently only 5.6 percent of CEOs at S&P 500 companies are women. Since 2014, Kellie McElhaney has been teaching a course at Haas called “The Business Case for Investing in Women." Regularly over-subscribed, the immensely popular class won McElhaney, an associate adjunct professor at Haas, the Earl F. Cheit Award for Excellence in Teaching. Students in the class were eager for data demonstrating that companies with greater numbers of women in leadership have higher share prices and better returns on equity and investment than companies with fewer women. Being LGBT at MIT Sloan
Today’s Fridays from the Frontline column comes to us from Andrew Foster, a student pursuing an MBA at MIT Sloan School of Management concurrently with an MS in civil engineering as part of that school’s engineering dual-degree program.
