This Oxford Saïd 1+1 MBA Student Just Won a $156K Pershing Square Scholarship
Worth more than $156,000 USD, the Pershing Square Scholarship at the University of Oxford Saïd Business School is one of the most prestigious and largest awards available at the university. This year, it went to Tim Krupa, a 1+1 MBA student who is combining his MBA with a master's degree in public policy (MPP). Krupa is the first Canadian to receive the award.

Georgetown McDonough Offers New FinTech Elective
Starting in spring 2018, Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business will offer a new elective course focused on fintech and blockchain. Specifically, FINC 258 will go into depth about how these technologies are disrupting financial systems and impacting business. The course has been designed to help students develop an understanding of the evolution and history of fintech and blockchain technology while also introducing other elements of financial technology. Inside the First MBA/MSDS Cohort at UVA Darden
This summer, the UVA Darden School of Business welcomed the inaugural cohort of its MBA/Master of Data Science (MSDS) dual-degree program. The cohort, consisting of seven students, assembled before most other cohorts to begin taking courses in programming, systems, and statistical computing over the summer session. The courses were offered at the UVA Data Science Institute and considered part of the first term of the MSDS degree. In total, the MBA/MSDS degree is two years in length and will prepare students for a future career in business and cutting-edge technology.

MIT Sloan Launches New Business Analytics Certificate
To better prepare students for careers in data science and business analytics, the MIT Sloan School of Management last month announced the launch of its new Business Analytics Certificate. The certificate program comes in response to growing demand from employers and students for more rigorous academic content focused on data science. It will be offered to MIT Sloan students as a complement to a wide range of data-focused programs, including the Master of Business Analytics (MBAn) degree.

€24 Million Investment Will Expand IESE Madrid Campus
Barcelona-based IESE Business School will invest €24 million in a new campus building in Madrid as part of an overall expansion, its dean announced recently. The new building, which will be focused on entrepreneurship, research, and international programs, will expand research and teaching opportunities in Madrid by 50 percent. Construction is slated to begin in 2018.

Babson College & F.W. Olin Graduate School Ranked Highly for Entrepreneurship
For the last few decades, Babson College has been considered a leader in entrepreneurial education, having ranked highly in the U.S. News & World Report for 24 years. And over the last decade, graduates have started more than 1,104 companies and raised more than $103 million in funding. This year was no different.
For the sixth year in a row, the Princeton Review and Entrepreneur Magazine ranked Babson College #1 on their list of Top 25 Best Undergrad Programs for Entrepreneurs, and the F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business wasn’t far behind. Olin secured the #4 spot nationally for its graduate programs for entrepreneurs, ranking above institutions such as Northwestern's Kellogg School of Management and UVA's Darden School of Business.
In addition, a new study published in the Journal of Small Business Management ranked Babson College entrepreneurship research #7 for its global impact. The study, "Contributing Forces in Entrepreneurship Research: A Global Citation Analysis," ranked Babson above Harvard and Stanford on this list of institutions informing entrepreneurship research worldwide.

Georgetown McDonough MBA Program Earns National Park Service Award
In recognition of having given more than 200 hours of volunteer time to the National Park Service this year, Georgetown's McDonough School of Business MBA program earned a 2017 National Park Service Award. The awards ceremony was held during a volunteer appreciation luncheon at the Women in Military Service Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery.

NYU Stern Receives $8 Million Alumni Gift to Promote Technology, Business, and Innovation
This week, NYU Stern School of Business announced the development of a new center to serve as a hub for cross-disciplinary collaboration and technology innovation. The new Fubon Center for Technology, Business, and Innovation was made possible thanks to an $8 million donation from alumnus Richard Ming-Hsing Tsai (MBA ’81). Tsai is chairman and CEO of Fubon Financial Holding Co., Ltd. and Fubon Life Insurance Co., Ltd. He is also vice chairman of Taiwan Mobile Co., Ltd.

Harvard Business School Tops Bloomberg Businessweek Ranking for Third Consecutive Year
For the third straight year, Harvard Business School reigned supreme in the annual Bloomberg Businessweek “Best Business Schools” ranking, topping the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and MIT Sloan School of Management. How McCombs Helps MBA Student Veterans Tackle Re-Entry Into Civilian Life
Returning to civilian life can be difficult for military veterans. In fact, in some cases, a veteran may never even have applied or interviewed for a civilian job before. Then—as U.S. Veterans Magazine. recently described—there’s the difficulty of trying to transcribe military duties into practical skills that a company could understand.
Veterans may also face challenges like PTSD and service-related disabilities, as well as being older and having a different life situations than their classmates. According to a 2016 survey by Student Veterans of America, 80 percent of student veterans are over the age of 25 and 46 percent have children—this includes both undergraduate and graduate students.
That’s why many top MBA programs such as UT Austin’s McCombs School of Business offer a variety of support programs to help military veterans make the transition between active duty and school.

Oxford Saïd Dean, Together with Apple’s Tim Cook, Launches New Entrepreneurial Hub
Building on the success of Saïd Business School's Oxford Launchpad and Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship, Oxford University has launched a new entrepreneurial hub: the Oxford Foundry. Saïd Dean Peter Tufano and Apple CEO Tim Cook helped kick things off at an October 11th launch event.
The new student-led and student-centric hub will be open to all 23,000 Oxford students and is part of an effort to inspire campus-wide innovation. Its focus will be to help students develop their entrepreneurial skills as well as create and scale ventures.

Social Impact MBAs: Programs That Help Students Make a Difference in the World
For years, social impact has been a growing area of emphasis at business schools. Increasingly, MBA students are stating that a well-paying career isn’t enough: They also want to make a difference.
As Sherryl Kuhlman, the managing director of the Social Impact Initiative at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School, told U.S. News & World Report: “Our students want to make the world go round in a different way. [They are no longer willing to] take a job they don't like so they can give their money away later. They want to merge the money and the purpose."
MBA programs incorporate social impact into their programs in various ways, through global experiences, coursework, clubs, competitions, and more. MBA students may also have opportunities to team up with corporations, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations to get hands-on experience during their graduate studies.
