Harvard Business School Tops Bloomberg Businessweek Ranking for Third Consecutive Year
For the third straight year, Harvard Business School reigned supreme in the annual Bloomberg Businessweek “Best Business Schools” ranking, topping the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and MIT Sloan School of Management. In joining HBS on the medals podium this year, those schools both saw significant gains over last year, climbing from sixth and seventh respectively. How McCombs Helps MBA Student Veterans Tackle Re-Entry Into Civilian Life
Returning to civilian life can be difficult for military veterans. In fact, in some cases, a veteran may never even have applied or interviewed for a civilian job before. Then—as U.S. Veterans Magazine. recently described—there’s the difficulty of trying to transcribe military duties into practical skills that a company could understand.
Veterans may also face challenges like PTSD and service-related disabilities, as well as being older and having a different life situations than their classmates. According to a 2016 survey by Student Veterans of America, 80 percent of student veterans are over the age of 25 and 46 percent have children—this includes both undergraduate and graduate students.
That’s why many top MBA programs such as UT Austin’s McCombs School of Business offer a variety of support programs to help military veterans make the transition between active duty and school.

Oxford Saïd Dean, Together with Apple’s Tim Cook, Launches New Entrepreneurial Hub
Building on the success of Saïd Business School's Oxford Launchpad and Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship, Oxford University has launched a new entrepreneurial hub: the Oxford Foundry. Saïd Dean Peter Tufano and Apple CEO Tim Cook helped kick things off at an October 11th launch event.
The new student-led and student-centric hub will be open to all 23,000 Oxford students and is part of an effort to inspire campus-wide innovation. Its focus will be to help students develop their entrepreneurial skills as well as create and scale ventures.

Social Impact MBAs: Programs That Help Students Make a Difference in the World
For years, social impact has been a growing area of emphasis at business schools. Increasingly, MBA students are stating that a well-paying career isn’t enough: They also want to make a difference.
As Sherryl Kuhlman, the managing director of the Social Impact Initiative at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School, told U.S. News & World Report: “Our students want to make the world go round in a different way. [They are no longer willing to] take a job they don't like so they can give their money away later. They want to merge the money and the purpose."
MBA programs incorporate social impact into their programs in various ways, through global experiences, coursework, clubs, competitions, and more. MBA students may also have opportunities to team up with corporations, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations to get hands-on experience during their graduate studies.

Rotman Launches New Healthcare & Life Sciences EMBA Program
Healthcare is one of the world’s largest and fastest growing industries. Michigan Ross Hires Six New Faculty Members, Five of Them Women
In an effort to expand its offerings to students, the University of Michigan Ross School of Business has hired six new faculty members. Members of the Ross faculty are routinely rated among the top researchers in the world, so it’s no surprise that the new faculty members have notable pedigrees.
It’s also notable that five out of the six new faculty members are women. Over the last five years, Ross has made a point of hiring an equal number of men and women, part of its "efforts to retain a faculty that is not only centered on excellence but also one that better reflects the diversity of our community," according to a press release announcing the new hires. This most recent set of hires is the largest group of women to fill tenure and tenure-track positions in the past decade.
The six new faculty bring unique experiences and specialties to the school.

Babson College Announces New Miami Campus for Graduate Programs
Beginning in fall 2018, Babson College graduate students will be able to take classes in Miami, Florida. The expansion builds on the success of Babson’s Women Innovating Now (WIN) Lab—an accelerator program for women entrepreneurs—which expanded to Miami in 2016. The new Babson College hub in Miami will offer a variety of graduate programs including the Blended Learning MBA, a Master of Science in Business Analytics, and a self-paced Certificate in Advanced Management.

GMAT Prep Courses Taught by Foster MBAs Raise Money for Kids in Paraguay
Non-traditional MBA candidates at the University of Washington Foster School of Business now have a new way to prep for the GMAT. In collaboration with PrepCorps, a test prep company designed for MBA candidates without a business background, several Foster MBA students are teaching GMAT courses to raise funds for to The Superkids Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to improving education for children in Paraguay.

Female Enrollment, GMAT Scores Rise for NYU Stern Class of 2019
Applications are up and acceptance rates are down, according to new statistics from the New York University Stern School of Business Class of 2019. A total of 3,927 applicants applied to join the NYU Stern Class of 2019, increasing around 4 percent from last year’s figure of 3,773. Despite the growing pool of applications, enrollment actually got tighter, dropping from 871 admissions last year to 822 for the class. Carnegie Mellon Offers New Master of Science in Product Management
In January 2018, Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) will welcome the first class of a new master of science in product management program. The new program is a joint degree offered by the university’s School of Computer Science and its Tepper School of Business. It was designed to meet a need felt by technical organizations, which have found that employees with strong skill sets in engineering and computer science would also benefit from training in product management.
“We heard repeatedly from employers how much difficulty they have recruiting good technical product managers,” explained Robert Monroe, co-director of the new degree program at Tepper. “The program fills a gap in the market and provides focused, relevant education to help software developers move into being an effective product manager, quickly.”

New Scholarship Alert: HBS Announces Forward Fellowship for MBA Class of 2020
The Harvard Business School (HBS) recently announced that it will offer students from low-income backgrounds the brand new Forward Fellowship, beginning for the MBA Class of 2020.
