tkin Likes Earned: 0 At this point the plan is pivoting into a non clinical role, aiming at CMO of a large group or medical consultancy. The HSM could contraction at Fuqua would be helpful. Location as well, I’m trying to get back to the eastern side of the Midwest. (0)

Assuming consulting is more realistic, both options will give you access to MBB, Wharton would likely still have the edge. It’s also more accessible to NYC, as you know.

On the other hand, Kellogg is offering you a $70k scholarship and Kellogg would offer you a second network to complement your Penn undergraduate network. In summary, if your main focus is to land a consulting job post MBA and then use this to transition to PE later, then take the $70k scholarship at Kellogg. Of course, you should also consider your personal fit with these programs. Would you prefer to be at Kellogg or at Wharton for your MBA? (0)

anon10646 Likes Earned: 814 Multiple grains of salt as I've only had limited work with marketing in financial svs jobs and I'm not in PE. Things that may matter: Penn UG, but not Wharton? From Penn UGs I've known they give the impression that Wharton is treated like its own thing. Maybe some outreach to any grads working in PE currently for advice re: career path advice as part of this choice may be a good proxy for how much you already have a Wharton network. What industry are you doing marketing for currently or are you're in mkt firm, not in-house? Would assume some, engineering or finance for example, would require bit more quant exposure and understanding in order to convey your marketing message/campaign. Marketing to either GE/PE ops would seem too big of a jump (especially in current MBA hiring environment). While I'm sure there is some strategy involved in marketing, perhaps not to same degree as developing it organizationally and explaining how that translates to/from #s on an investment to finance people. If it is, how well can you explain that to finance people like me who might not understand that. PE Ops you'd likely be competing against pre-MBA MBB (and some IB) who have WE doing M&A/Strategy already and may be there sponsored, so they can run a really focused recruiting since they have MBB return backpocket. Growth Equity, maybe, as valuation numbers will be more inexact and ranged you could compensate with really strong relationship skills, as you'll need to be able to network build to originate leads/deals and stay on top of developments. But still hard as the 'strategy' aspects may be coming from a partner being listed as the company advisor and junior level is just numbers/supplementing portfolio corpfin functions. If you're looking at strategy focused work rather than investment team, I'm not sure IB is the right bridge path. Sure you may model out synergies in deals or changes for Rx, but as an IB associate you're not thinking that deeply on how you'd implement them, just if you can justify the assumptions based on industry and deal precedents. You could be the 'bridge' person working across investment and ops coming from IB, but general understanding is PE Ops sources a lot from consultants that the PE firm worked with previously or internal strategy at a PortCo. Consulting placement at each would be close, but if you aren't poached by PE and have to try and network your own way in, either through recruiters or connections at PE firms, Wharton name and network probably would matter. How set you are on PE as the end goal versus it just being one possibility may make the difference in choice. (2)

giraffe Likes Earned: 1 Thank you for the advice and feature on Wire Taps! I wrote the original Decision Wire the same day I had visited Kellogg so had some recency bias towards Kellogg. However, after a few days being away from both schools I found myself having a small gut feeling towards Booth. So that's exactly what I did even though it basically a coin toss at the end. I do come from an Engineering background so Booth might be double dipping a bit on the quantitative side, but I'm really excited nonetheless! I really appreciate the responsiveness of the Clear Admit team on my posts and Alex and Graham for the ~200 podcasts I have listened to in the last 5 years. I have posted a couple of times for advice now, and the Clear Admit community always delivers! (1)
