anon39379 Likes Earned: 3 Targeting energy post MBA and would prefer to be in the South/Southeast so leaning slightly towards McCombs for those reasons. Their ~70% scholarship is also very appealing compared to the ~35% from Fuqua. But would I be making a mistake to turn down a T10? Fuqua's deposit deadline is Feb. 19 and at this point I am pretty torn... (1)

anon20747 Likes Earned: 50 I can't imagine Fuqua having any challenges placing in the southeast. Scholarship difference seems inconsequential although I'm guessing CoA at Fuqua is higher than McCombs. Conventionally wisdom would probably say Fuqua but McCombs is a great program. I'd look at energy placements, talk to some students in that space, and go from there. (4)

anon21584 Likes Earned: 6 Hey! I'm in the same boat. I'm looking to pivot into clean energy project finance/development and have applied to McCombs. I'm currently based in Texas, and am looking to stay in Texas post-graduation. I considered many of the top schools for Energy (Haas, Ross, Duke, UNC, McCombs, Dartmouth (MIT, Penn, and Stanford would have been reaches for me)) and found that in between the M7 and T20, McCombs was best suited to get me to where I wanted to be. This was my thought process: I love the culture, it's a program that is trying to fight above its weight, is in Austin (where a lot of renewable project development companies are starting to open offices), has a great energy curriculum and faculty across the entire school, and is in a state that is considered by most to be on the leading edge of the energy industry. Hopefully insight into my thought process helps you clarify yours. Nice get on the scholarship money. That seems like a good package relative to the other packages I have seen on here in the last few weeks. Is there anything in your application that helped you get to that level for McCombs? (1)

anon39379 Likes Earned: 3 Thanks for the feedback and the feature on the podcast! I ultimately went with UT. It was a much lower CoA, a better “fit” personally, and the students and alumni in the energy industry had career paths that aligned more with my interests. Anon21584, my stats weren’t spectacular so I made sure to highlight my commitments outside of school/work and showed a lot of interest in the program by connecting with several people affiliated with McCombs, attending every info session/fair/coffee chat in my city, and going to visit before applying.
