To begin the interview, the student mentioned that he was originally from New Jersey, close to where I currently live. After some small talk about finals (I was there during finals week) and my method of transportation to the GSB (the El, which I don’t recommend for a first time trip), we started the formal part of the interview. Most of the questions were quite straightforward:
- Tell me about yourself?
- Why do you want an MBA and what are your future goals?
- Why the GSB and why now?
- Is there anything about your application that you would like the adcom to know?
- What will you bring to the GSB community?
- The only question that I was not thought about beforehand: What are three things about yourself that you would like the adcom to know?
My interviewer was very friendly and laid-back, and provided his perspective of how the GSB may fit with my goals after I had answered the questions. He was aware of Chicago’s repuation as a quant school, and mentioned that while there were a few quant jocks, the majority of the class was very diverse across strengths and backgrounds. He also took a time to mention that his social experience was a great one. I definitely left the interview with a positive feeling about my prosects.
(I have made a strong effort to provide an objective view of the interview, but in the spirit of full disclosure, I was accepted.)
