I’m in HBS. Got my acceptance letter at noon today. It has been a great journey.
Contrary to my expectations my HBS interview was a very pleasant experience. I interviewed on-campus with an admissions officer. She started with usual pleasantries: “so, how are you today?” To ease my nerves I gave a rather long but humorous response to this question. I talked about my long walk from Cambridge to HBS on that bitterly cold and windy morning and how I get sinus headaches.
She then asked whether I had attended a class. Again, my response was colored with details of the case Isat through. I even related the case to my hypochondria!
Then it was down to serious business.
Questions:
- What will be your biggest challenge?
- How will you address the challenge?
- Tell me about the quantitative skills you apply at work (I’m from a non-business background)
- What choices you had after graduation? How did you make a decision?
- How will your colleagues describe you? Three weaknesses
- What will you do next week at work?
- Your ideal classmates at HBS?
- Tell me a CEO you admire.
- Anything else you would like me to ask you?
At the end she summarized the next steps and wished me all the best and walked me out of the room. She was pleasant indeed.
I suggest being natural. You can prepare for some standard questions, however.
All the best
