Harvard MBA Admissions Interview Questions: Round 1 / Adcom / On-Campus

Interviewed on Nov 7, 2011. It was very conversational in nature and not stressfull at all.

Interviewer’s general approach:

Started off by explaining the process as follows:

– Interview is one of the items of your application and not make-or-break

– He would be taking notes and will move from one question to another very quickly and would be looking at his watch to keep track of time

– There was an observer in the room who wouldn’t really ask questions and was there to have a second set of eyes

Questions:

– How did you decide to move from career A to career B (I have switched careers in the past)

– Was it a tough decision to give up what you had worked so hard and so many years for?

– What is your current job like? Do you manage people? Do you have a leadership style? What is your leadership style?

– Have you had the experience to manage difficult personalities? How have you handled that?

– Have encountered a situation have your recommendations have not been accepted by the client and they just refuse to follow it?

– If your closest 5 friends where in this room without the pressure of talking to adcom, how would they describe you?

– What do you like about (specific interest on my resume)?

– You have had a lot of schooling? Why business school? Why HBS? (I have a graduate degree already)

– Will you thrive in case method?

– After business school, do you want to move back to (country of origin) immediately?

– Is there anything you wish we had asked that I did not cover? (I spoke more about my long term goal)

Good Luck everyone!
