I applied for the January round, and had my interview this past weekend. Fast turnaround.
The interview was over Skype, and the interviewer was very friendly. He asked the questions I had expected:
- Walk me through your resume.
- What do you want to do after business school?
- Why do you need an MBA?
- Why Tuck?
- What classes and initiatives at Tuck specifically interest you?
- What are your strengths and weaknesses?
- And finally, what’s unique about you that you can add to the Tuck culture and environment?
These basically rehashed essay questions, and it seemed he was listening more for sincerity than content (since everyone will say overwhelmingly positive things).
The overall flow was fairly smooth – in keeping with Tuck’s culture, he was casual, gave me a brief overview of his own resume, and told me outright that he’s not writing down the number of questions I asked him. He seemed concerned about assessing how much I really knew about Tuck, and why I wanted to attend Tuck over schools like Booth (my undergraduate institution), Columbia or NYU (since I live in NYC).
Overall, I was very nervous and was given only three days between being invited to interview and actually having the interview. I know many Tuck interviewees say they end the talks feeling great, but my response is more tempered; Tuck students are nice, but they are listening VERY critically!
