My interviewer was an executive at my former workplace and had booked a meeting room at his office. It was a mixture of formal and informal questions. He had a list of questions that he said was mandated to him by the admissions staff + general questions that he was interested in.
List of interview questions:
- Walk me through your resume
- Why MBA?
- Why Now?
- Why UCLA?
- What other schools did you apply to?
- Based on your current interests, have you looked into schools x and y?
- If you got into all your schools, why would you pick UCLA over those schools, which are higher ranked?
It was a pretty informal chat but I wasn’t prepared to be asked for other schools that I had applied to and why I would pick UCLA over them, especially since it seemed like he knew where UCLA stood in terms of rankings. I am not sure if I gave a satisfactory answer because my brain was racking to try to find reasonable responses to this question. That said, he did open up quite a bit when it came time to discuss his own UCLA experience and I could tell that he loved his time there.
I’m tempted to say that I bombed my interview based on how the last few questions went but we did chat for over an hour…so I’m hoping that the overall impression was still positive.
