UNC / Kenan-Flagler MBA Admissions Interview Questions: Round 2 / Adcom / On-campus

The school was virtually empty as exams had just finished and it was holiday season. There were no class visits on this day, but I had already attended a class visit and campus tour. However, I recommend that you do attend the class visit and talk to students to get a good perspective of the school.

My interview was at 2 45 PM on Monday, so I flew in that morning. I reached an hour and a half early (because I could not take a chance with any flight delays) and spent the time in the admissions office talking to fellow interviewees. It definitely did help relax some nerves.

At about 2 45 I met Ed Davis, an Admissions Director at UNC. He was an enthusiastic person and began discussing about his background and how he reached KF. I could see that he already read through my resume and had highlighted the points he wanted to cover.

  • He began the interview by asking me to describe my current role and how it fit into my organization and my day-to-day responsibilities. A bit of my current work was analogous to some of the challenges faced by the UNC admissions team when moving to a new admissions IT system and he shared his thoughts about that.
  • He then asked me about my leadership experiences in my prior role and how I managed teams remotely and organized my work with the teams.
  • After this he asked me my professional goals for the future and how an MBA would help me achieve that. At this moment, I delved into my community experiences and spoke at length about how I reached a decision to change my career.
  • He then asked me, what specifically at KFBS would help me achieve my goals. So I spoke about how I felt the institute had a very collaborative student body and how it would help me share knowledge. I then reiterated my class visit and how I saw the case study and diversity in the works. Later I spoke about my ideas of some activities at the Marketing club and an idea I had about doing a GIE project in UK.
  • Since I am a re-applicant, he asked me about the work I did on my profile in the last year.
  • He then ended the interiview by checking if I had any questions where I then enquired about how the recruitment landscape had improved in the last year.

A common feature through the interview was that he took a copius amount of notes.

All in all it was a nice experience. Hope this helps!
