Received last minute interview invite – 8 days before decision deadline. Interview was conducted via Skype with Adcom who confirmed she had only reviewed my resume and lasted 25 minutes with 5 minutes for questions – this was spelled out in the introduction. Topics were:
- How did you end up choosing your major
- How did you end up in your current job (how military job/location selection works)
- Explain what you do in your job (this was a detail oriented discussion with many follow up questions)
- What is an average day like for you
- What are you future goals
- Why MBA
- Why SOM – important to note the interviewer stopped taking notes for this portion and for the most part, was the only time during the interview we had eye contact. Yale genuinely cares about your sincerity to attend. Be prepared to talk about the curriculum, student body/class size, student clubs, and faculty. Be specific!
- Questions for interviewer – I asked about the new Dean from Chicago Booth, veteran network, and New Haven area. Interview had genuine answers.
Interview was conversation like and I was honestly surprised to have the invite. Due to the timing of the military’s separation process, I completed my Yale application in 10 days and one of my letters of recommendation was 30 days late. I have been wait listed at Yale which is an interesting process in itself. You have the opportunity to submit additional information – sort like the ability to plead your case to the admissions committee as to why you think you should be accepted.
