The interview was scripted in advance with specific questions that the second-year student had been told to ask – which meant that it was difficult to have a free-flowing conversation and create a genuine connection. But the tone of the interview was friendly and the questions were relatively standard and focused around why an MBA and why Yale, some resume questions, and a question focusing on giving an example of something I had learned by looking at a situation through someone else’s perspective. I was surprised by the focus on diversity (the quote + an additional question around how I plan on contributing to diversity at Yale). Overall, a relatively easy interview that made me feel like it wasn’t the most important deciding factor, but more of a culture check.
