Question about All Schools

Is Tuck considered more low class than Columbia? All else, why would someone go to Tuck that also got into Columbia

alexbr4 Verified User. Likes Earned: 1642 Tuck would be in a tier below Columbia, generally. But some will still choose Tuck over Columbia, much like some may choose Wharton over Harvard.

You may want a quieter environment at Tuck, where you’ll be more connected with your classmates (less distractions). There might be a specific program within Tuck that really aligns with your goals. I’d also assume Tuck is cheaper than living in NYC, etc.

grichmond Verified User. Likes Earned: 1184 "Low class" feels like an odd choice of words here given that we are talking about two superb MBA programs with highly selective admissions processes. Both schools are members of the Ivy League too, which means the MBA programs are connected to a parent institution with a host of academic offerings and broad alumni networks.

As to the rankings, here is where they stand:

BusinessWeek: Tuck 3, Columbia 5
Financial Times: Columbia 3, Tuck 12
US News: Tuck 10, Columbia 12

If you want to dig further into this, you might look at DecisionWire entries on this site where applicants were admitted to both schools, so you can see how they made their choices.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, these programs - while ranked fairly close together - are actually very different from each other. Rural vs. Urban, Smaller vs. Larger, etc. Might be a good idea to spend time on each campus and see for yourself, if you are able to make the trip.
