MBA Programs that Don’t Require GMAT, GRE or EA Test Scores

Traditionally, business schools required MBA applicants to submit a GMAT or GRE test score in order to help gauge the ability of applicants to excel academically in the business school classroom.  However, over the past several years, a large number of MBA programs have relaxed their test requirement either by offering test waivers or by not requiring a test score.

Given this evolving text optional landscape, we have compiled this list to help MBA applicants learn which U.S based MBA programs offer test waivers or don’t require a test score. Arizona State Carey

The Arizona State University Carey School of Business does not require MBA applicants to submit a GMAT or GRE test score for their Part-Time Evening MBA program, their Online MBA program or their Executive MBA program.  While the Carey Full-Time MBA program does require either a GMAT or a GRE test score, MBA applicants can submit an optional essay to be granted a test waiver based on their academic and professional experience.    

Babson Olin

The Babson College Olin Graduate School of Business does not require MBA applicants to submit a GMAT or GRE test score for their Full-Time MBA program. Part-Time Flex MBA program or their Online MBA program.   

Berkeley Haas

The University of California, Berkeley Haas School of Business does require MBA applicants to submit either a GMAT or a GRE test score for their Full-Time MBA program.  Similarly, Haas requires MBA applicants to their Part-Time Evening and Weekend MBA program and their Executive MBA program to submit one of the following: a GMAT, GRE or Executive Assessment (EA) test score.  In addition, Haas does not offer test waivers. So, if you want to attend an MBA program at Haas, you will need to submit a test score.    

Boston College Carroll

The Boston College Carroll School of Management does require MBA applicants to submit either a GMAT or a GRE test score for their Full-Time MBA program and their Part-Time Evening MBA program. MBA applicants may apply for a test waiver based on their academic and professional experience.   

Boston University Questrom

The Boston University Questrom School of Business does not require MBA applicants to submit either a GMAT or a GRE test score for their Part-Time Evening MBA program, their Online MBA program or their Deferred Enrollment Full-Time MBA program.  While Questrom does require either a GMAT or a GRE test score for the Full-Time MBA program, MBA applicants may apply for a test waiver based on meeting academic requirements.  

Brigham Young Marriott

The Brigham Young University Marriott School of Business does not require MBA applicants to submit a GMAT, GRE or EA test score for their Executive MBA program.  While Marriott does require either a GMAT or a GRE test score for the Full-Time MBA program, MBA applicants may apply for a test waiver based on meeting academic and professional requirements.  Note that Marriott encourages most Full-Time MBA applicants to submit a test score and only offers a limited number of test waivers.    

Carnegie Mellon Tepper

Carnegie Mellon University Tepper School of Business does require MBA applicants to submit a GMAT, GRE or EA test for the Full-Time MBA program, the Online Hybrid MBA program, and the Accelerated MBA program.  MBA applicants may apply for a test waiver based on meeting academic requirements. 

Chicago Booth

University of Chicago Booth School of Business does require MBA applicants to submit a GMAT or GRE test score for their Full-Time MBA program. Part-Time MBA, Weekend MBA , and Executive MBA applicants must submit GMAT, GRE, or EA test scores. Test waivers based on academic requirements are offered for University of Chicago graduates applying to the Full-Time, Part-Time, and Weekend MBA programs. 

Columbia Business School

Columbia Business School does require MBA applicants to submit a GMAT, GRE, or EA test score for their Full-Time MBA program. There are no test waivers offered for Full-Time MBA applicants. Applicants to the Executive MBA program at Columbia are required to submit GMAT, GRE, or EA test scores, with test waivers offered based on academic and professional requirements. 

Cornell Johnson

Cornell S.C. Johnson College of Business does require MBA applicants to their Full-Time MBA program to submit a GMAT or GRE test score. Test waivers are available. Applicants to the Executive MBA program at Cornell are not required to submit a test score. 

Dartmouth Tuck

Dartmouth Tuck School of Business does require their Full-Time MBA applicants to submit GMAT or GRE test scores. Test waivers are available based on academic and professional requirements.

Duke Fuqua

Duke University Fuqua School of Business does require Full-Time Daytime MBA applicants and Accelerated Full-Time Daytime MBA applicants to submit GMAT, GRE, or EA test scores. Test waivers are not available. Applicants to the Global Executive MBA and Weekend Executive MBA are required to submit GMAT, GRE, or EA test scores, with test waivers available based on professional or academic requirements. 

Emory Goizueta

Emory Goizueta Business School does require One-Year Full-Time MBA and Two-Year Full-Time MBA applicants to submit GMAT or GRE scores. MCAT and LSAT scores are also accepted. Test waivers are available based on academic and professional requirements. Applicants to the Evening Part-Time MBA and Executive MBA programs are not required to submit test scores, but may choose to submit GMAT, GRE, or EA scores if desired. 

Florida Warrington

University of Florida Warrington College of Business does require their Full-Time MBA applicants to submit a GMAT or GRE score, with no options for test waivers. Applicants to the Executive MBA, Weekend Professional MBA, and Online MBA programs are not required to submit test scores. 

Georgetown McDonough

Georgetown University McDonough School of Business does require MBA applicants to their Full-Time MBA, Flex MBA, and Flex MBA Online programs to submit valid or expired GMAT, GRE, or EA test scores. LSAT, MCAT, and PCAT scores are also accepted for the Flex MBA and Flex Online programs. Test waivers for the Full-Time MBA program and test waivers for the Flex MBA and Flex Online MBA programs are available based on academic and professional requirements. Applicants to the Executive MBA program are not required to submit test scores.

Georgia Tech Scheller

Georgia Tech Scheller College of Business does not require MBA applicants to submit standardized test scores for their Full-Time MBA, Evening MBA, and Executive MBA programs 

Georgia Terry

Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia does require GMAT or GRE scores for their Full-Time MBA program. Test waivers are available based on professional and academic requirements. Applicants to the Executive MBA, Professional MBA, and Online MBA programs are not required to submit test scores. 

Harvard Business School

Harvard Business School does require applicants to their Full-Time MBA program to submit GMAT or GRE scores. Test waivers are not available.

Illinois Gies

University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Gies College of Business does not require MBA applicants to submit test scores to their Online MBA program. 

Indiana Kelley

Indiana University Kelley School of Business does require applicants to the Full-Time MBA program to submit GMAT or GRE scores, with test waivers available based on academic requirements. Applicants to the Kelley Direct Online MBA and Part-Time Evening MBA are not required to submit test scores. 

Johns Hopkins Carey

Johns Hopkins Carey Business School does require MBA applicants to their Full-Time MBA program to submit GMAT or GRE scores. Test waivers are available based on academic and professional requirements. Applicants to the Part-Time MBA program are not required to submit test scores. 

Maryland Smith

University of Maryland Smith School of Business does not require applicants to their Full-Time MBA, Part-Time Flex MBA, Online MBA, and Executive MBA programs to submit test scores. 

Michigan Ross

University of Michigan Ross School of Business does not require applicants to their Full-Time MBA program to submit GMAT or GRE scores. However, applicants that choose not to submit a test score must submit a Statement of Academic Readiness to demonstrate quantitative ability through academic or professional experiences. Applicants to the Online MBA and Weekend MBA programs must either submit a GMAT/GRE/EA test score or pass a Quantitative Readiness Course offered by Michigan Ross. Test waivers are available for applicants to the Online MBA and Weekend MBA programs based on academic and professional requirements. Applicants to the Executive MBA program do not need to submit test scores or other proof of quantitative ability. 

Michigan State Broad

Michigan State University Broad College of Business does not require MBA applicants to their Full-Time MBA and Executive MBA programs to submit test scores. 

Minnesota Carlson

University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management does require applicants to their Full-Time MBA program to submit a GMAT or GRE test score, with test waivers available based on academic and professional requirements. Applicants to the Executive MBA, Online MBA, and Part-Time MBA programs are not required to submit test scores. 

MIT Sloan

MIT Sloan School of Management does require applicants to their Full-Time MBA program to submit a GMAT or GRE test score. Test waivers are available to applicants that have been unable to take either test due to extenuating circumstances. Applicants to the MIT Sloan Fellows MBA program should submit GMAT, GRE, or EA scores unless circumstances have prevented the applicant from taking a test. For those applying to the Executive MBA program, test scores are not required. 

Northwestern Kellogg

Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management does require applicants to their Full-Time MBA program to submit GMAT or GRE test scores. Test waivers are not offered. Applicants to the Part-Time MBA program must submit GMAT, GRE, EA, MCAT, or LSAT scores. The testing requirement may be waived if an applicant fits certain academic requirements. Applicants to the Executive MBA program are not required to submit test scores unless they do not hold a bachelor’s degree 

Notre Dame Mendoza

University of Notre Dame Mendoza College of Business does require applicants to their Full-Time MBA program to submit a GMAT or GRE score. Test waivers are available. Applicants to the Global Executive MBA program are not required to submit a GMAT or EA test score unless they do not hold a bachelor’s degree. 

NYU Stern

NYU Stern School of Business does require MBA applicants to the two-year Full-Time MBA and one-year Luxury & Retail MBA programs to submit test scores. NYU Stern accepts GMAT, GRE, EA, LSAT, MCAT, and DAT test scores. Test waivers are available based on professional and academic requirements. Part-Time MBA program applicants must submit a GMAT, GRE, or EA test score, with test waivers available based on academic requirements. Applicants to the one-year Andre Koo Technology and Entrepreneurship MBA are not required to submit test scores. 

Ohio State Fisher

Ohio State University Fisher College of Business does require MBA applicants to the Full-Time MBA program to submit GMAT or GRE scores, with test waivers available based on academic and professional requirements. For those applying to the Working Professional MBA or Online Working Professional MBA programs, GMAT, GRE, or EA scores are required. Test waivers for both the Online and regular Working Professional MBA programs are available based on academic and professional requirements. Applicants to the Executive MBA program are not required to submit GMAT, GRE, or EA test scores unless they have lower than a 3.0 (out of 4.0) undergraduate GPA and less than seven years of full-time post-undergraduate work experience. 

Penn Wharton

Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania does require applicants to their Full-Time MBA program and Executive MBA program to submit test scores. Full-Time MBA program applicants must submit a GMAT or GRE test score, while Executive MBA program applicants must submit a GMAT, GRE, or EA test score. Test waivers are not offered for either program.  

Rice Jones

Rice University Jones Graduate School of Business does require applicants to their Full-Time MBA program to submit a GMAT, GRE, or EA test score, with test waivers available based on academic and professional requirements. Applicants to the Part-Time Professional MBA, Hybrid MBA, and Online MBA@Rice programs are required to submit GMA, GRE, or EA test scores, but the test requirement is waived for applicants that fit certain academic and professional requirements. Applicants to the Executive MBA program are not required to submit test scores. 

Rochester Simon

University of Rochester Simon Business School does not require GMAT, GRE, or EA test scores for their Full-Time MBA program, Executive MBA program, and Professional MBA program applicants. 

SMU Cox

SMU Cox School of Business does not require MBA applicants to submit GMAT, GRE, or EA test scores for their Full-Time MBA, Professional MBA, Executive MBA, Online MBA, and MBA Direct: Early Career Track programs. 

Stanford Graduate School of Business

Stanford Graduate School of Business does require MBA applicants to their Full-Time MBA program to submit GMAT or GRE scores. Test waivers are not offered. 

UC Irvine Merage

University of California Irvine Merage School of Business does require MBA applicants to their Full-Time MBA program to submit GMAT or GRE scores, with test waivers available based on academic and professional requirements. Applicants to the Flex MBA and Executive MBA programs are not required to submit GMAT, GRE, or EA test scores. 

UCLA Anderson

UCLA Anderson School of Management does require a GMAT, GRE, or EA test score for their Part-Time Fully Employed MBA program applicants, with test waivers offered based on academic requirements. Applicants to the Full-Time MBA, Executive MBA, and UCLA-NUS Executive MBA programs are not required to submit GMAT, GRE, or EA test scores. 

UNC Kenan Flagler

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Kenan Flagler Business School does require MBA applicants to submit GMAT or GRE test scores for the Full-Time MBA program, with test waivers available based on academic and professional requirements. Applicants with less than five years of work experience to the Evening Executive MBA, Charlotte Executive MBA, and Online MBA@UNC programs are required to submit GMAT or GRE scores or apply for a test waiver based on academic and professional requirements. Applicants to the Weekend Executive MBA program do not need to submit GMAT, GRE, or EA test scores. 

USC Marshall

USC Marshall School of Business does require applicants to their Full-Time MBA, Part-Time MBA, and to submit GMAT or GRE scores, with the option of requesting a test waiver based on academic requirements. One-Year Full-Time MBA program applicants must submit a GMAT, GRE, or EA score, with test waivers available. Applicants to the Executive MBA and Online MBA programs are not required to submit GMAT, GRE, or EA scores. 

UT Austin McCombs

University of Texas at Austin McCombs School of Business does require applicants to the Full-Time MBA, Evening MBA, and Executive MBA programs to submit GMAT, GRE, or EA test scores. Test waivers are available based on academic and professional requirements. 

U Virginia Darden

University of Virginia Darden School of Business does require applicants to their Full-Time MBA, Part-Time MBA, and Executive MBA programs to submit a GMAT, GRE, EA, LSAT, or MCAT test score. Test waivers are available based on academic and professional requirements. 

Vanderbilt Owen

Vanderbilt University Owen Graduate School of Management does require applicants to the Full-Time MBA program to submit a GMAT, GRE, or EA test score. Test waivers are available based on academic and professional requirements. Applicants to the Executive MBA program are required to submit a GMAT, GRE, or EA test score, with test waivers available. 

Washington U Olin

Washington University in St. Louis Olin Business School does not require MBA applicants for their Full-Time MBA, Part-Time Flex MBA, and Executive MBA programs to submit test scores. 

Washington Foster

University of Washington Foster School of Business does not require MBA applicants to submit test scores for the Full-Time MBA, Global Executive MBA, Evening MBA, Hybrid MBA, Executive MBA, and Technology Management MBA. 

Yale SOM

Yale School of Management does require applicants to their Full-Time MBA program to submit a GMAT or GRE score. Test waivers are not available. Applicants to the MBA for Executives program must submit a GMAT, GRE, or EA test score, with no test waivers available.
