Academics
Faculty
IE Business School students have access to over 150 full-time and visiting faculty spread across 11 academic areas including accounting & management control, economics, entrepreneurship, finance, marketing & communication, and more. Besides teaching, the faculty publish research in journals, books, case studies, and collaborate with companies to address real-life needs and problems.
Curriculum
The IE full-time International MBA (IMBA) can be completed in 11 months, 15 months or 19 months (the latter option for dual degrees). Classes are taught in English.
Students can begin the program in September or January for all three duration options. Before the start of the first term, all students, particularly those without a business background, are invited to complete the pre-program Bridge to Business module, which covers basic business subjects from accounting to quant methods. Then, each MBA option begins Term 1. During this time, full-time MBA students take two modules of “Business Foundations” with coursework focused on foundational subjects, such as entrepreneurship, finance and data analytics. Term 2 for the 11- and 15-month options is known as the Concentration period. Over 12 weeks, MBA students deep dive into the concentration area most aligned with their career path. A concentration consists of six courses, all of which are mandatory for any given concentration area.
In Term 3, IE follows the Concentration phase with a Lab or Internship period for the 11- and 15-month options. MBA students can choose from two options: pursuing an internship or working in a team on a real-world business problem (Lab). For the Lab Period, students can choose one of four options to focus on, which include social impact, tech, business impact, or developing a startup. The final component of the MBA program for the 11- and 15-month options is an integrative exercise of a self-selected relevant business problem and a corresponding credible approach and/or solution.
Throughout the IE MBA program, students participate in the Impact Skills Accelerator (a series of skill-based workshops), the Career Discovery Accelerator and job prep and search.
Other MBA Degree Options
Along with its full-time International MBA program, IE offers a part-time (18 or 24 months) Global Online MBA program with a blended format and an online format. The 16- or 20-month Executive MBA offers either a fully in-person format held in Spanish, or a blend between online courses and in-person Madrid class sessions held in English. The part-time (20-month) Global Executive MBA program also uses a blend of both online and in-person class sessions in Madrid, Oxford, Singapore, and Los Angeles, with all classes held in English. There is also a 15-month EMBA program in partnership with Brown University, which generally enrolls students with over 10 years of work experience.
