Curriculum
The two-year Full-Time MBA at the Carey Business School is broken down into semesters. Students must complete 54 credits to graduate. While Carey does not waive courses to reduce program requirements, if a student took a similar course as an undergraduate that has a waiver examination, the student can test for proficiency and if successful must replace the course with an elective. Up to two courses (four credits total) from other Johns Hopkins Schools can be transferred into a Carey degree program if they are determined to be an equivalent to degree requirements by the academic program director. The curriculum is conveyed in a mix of classroom learning, experiential learning and co-curricular experiences.
First-year students begin their time at Carey with Foundations Week, which includes several skills-based bootcamps, an introduction to experiential learning and networking with new peers. The curriculum includes 11 foundational courses and two core experiential learning courses. Students then can customize their elective choices. While students may take any mix of electives, Carey does provide a suggested elective selection based on career goals, including finance, marketing, consulting, operations management, and leading organizations. Students must also complete a mandatory practical experience the summer between their first and second year.
Full-Time MBA students at Carey choose one of two specializations: Analytics, Leadership, and Innovation, or Health, Technology, and Innovation. The analytics specialization involves taking 10 credits of required courses and electives; course highlights include Foundations of Business Analytics and Econometrics for Market Analysis. Those who choose the health and technology specialization will take five required courses tailored to the pathway along with electives; course highlights include Business Law, Health Law and Regulations, and Artificial Intelligence and the Business of Health. Utilizing the rigorous data analytic methods and creative problem-solving techniques learned during the first year of the Full-Time MBA, students partake in the Innovation Field Project. Students work in teams, along with a faculty advisor, to solve a complex business challenge over the course of 8 weeks. Five weeks are spent in the classroom, meeting with faculty advisors and working with the client to review the project scope, set goals, conduct research, and collect data. The project wraps up with three weeks on-site, conducting research and applying solutions.

Financing

All full-time students are automatically considered for merit-based aid scholarships when applying to Carey. These scholarships include the Carey Business Fellowship, which covers full tuition and provides an $19,800 stipend per year for students with three years of work experience by the program’s start, scored above the 80th percentile on the GMAT/GRE, and have a GPA of 3.3 or higher. Additionally, all prospective students are eligible for the Dean’s Scholarship, which can include an award of up to full tuition. The school also partners with Reaching Out MBA Fellowship to offer scholarships for budding LGBTQ+ business leaders. Fellows receive $10,000 or more per year and gain access to Reaching Out programming. Forté Fellowships are competitive awards that recognize students committed to advancing women in business.
