Academics

Faculty

Michigan State Broad employs 16 faculty members for their core curriculum and 39 for their elective curriculum, though there is some overlap. These faculty members teach across five departments, Accounting, Finance, Management, Marketing, and Supply Chain Management, and contribute to Michigan State Broad’s research centers and initiatives.

Curriculum

Professors utilize a mix of teaching styles at Michigan State Broad, from case-based learning, lectures, presentations, guest visits, and more. The academic year is broken into two semesters, each of which has two modules of curriculum. The core curriculum comprises 34 of the 61 credits required to graduate with a Broad MBA. The remaining 27 credits come from electives/concentration credits.

Before the academic year begins, Broad does provide the MBA Math course to students who did not take a standardized test to help them grasp the courses offered during the first semester. MBA Math course includes basics of spreadsheets, economics, accounting, finance and statistics. New students can also meet with a career coach and review career prep materials such as resume preparation, networking tips and career outcome mapping in the summer before starting the program.

During the first year, Broad students take several core courses. The core covers foundational business principles in finance, management, accounting, data analysis, leadership, teamwork and more. There are no course waivers.

MBA students may begin taking elective courses in the third semester. Broad provides a broad range of elective courses from which to choose, and students choose a corresponding concentration. The primary/required concentrations are Finance, Human Resources & Strategic Management, Marketing, and Supply Chain Management. The secondary/optional concentrations are Finance, Human Resources & Strategic Management, Marketing, Supply Chain Management, Business Analytics, and Entrepreneurship & Innovation. All concentrations, except HR & Strategic Management, and Entrepreneurship & Innovation, are eligible for the STEM-degree option.

Other MBA Degree Options

In addition to the full-time MBA, Broad College of Business offers a STEM MBA and an Executive MBA (EMBA) degree.

The STEM MBA curriculum option is a part of full-time MBA program. It includes a significant infusion of quantitative curriculum. Students from the full-time MBA and STEM MBA grow and learn within the same program, with only a variation in class and concentration offerings.

The EMBA runs for 20 months and is available in two options. The Executive MBA cohort meets in-person every other weekend in East Lansing or Troy, while the Executive MBA Flex is a hybrid format, which meets in-person one weekend per month exclusively in East Lansing and online. The Broad Executive MBA weekend format is built for working professionals, who want to rise to the C-suite in their current company or explore new horizons. The program gives them the tools, knowledge and connections they need to advance their career.

In addition to the 21-month full-time MBA program, Broad offers a four-year JD/MBA program with the Michigan State University College of Law. Also available are an M.D./MBA with the College of Human Medicine at Michigan State University and a D.O./MBA dual degree program with its College of Osteopathic Medicine.
