Curriculum
The Rotman full-time MBA is a two-year program designed to be completed with 16 months of classwork and a four-month paid internship. Prior to joining the program, students can choose to participate in Career Discovery sessions to explore career interests, Self-Development Lab sessions for personal development, and the Pre-MBA Program for academic preparation. Subsequently, students attend Orientation, a one -day event that precedes Orientation Intensive and Career Centre Activities, during which students learn about the resources available at Rotman. Orientation is capped off with Orientation Camp, a weekend retreat hosted by the Office for Student Engagement. International students are invited to attend sessions led by an English language professional who will address Canadian business culture topics.
In the first year, students complete the core curriculum over four seven-week terms to develop their business fundamentals, and data analysis and strategy skill sets. These courses cover topics such as management, accounting, statistics, and finance. In the fourth term, students take their last three core courses and one elective as they prepare to personalize their studies.
In the second year of study, Rotman students may complete up to two of the 10 MBA emphases, which include disciplines such as global management and sustainability. Or, they can simply choose from among the more than 100 elective courses available. Students can also choose electives that align with one of three learning pathways. Whether they choose an emphasis or not, students must take Ethics in the second year.
In addition to coursework, full-time MBA students participate in the Flexible Internship Program, which allows students to take an internship after their first year. Internship periods range from May to August, September to December, and January to April, allowing students the flexibility to pursue an internship at a convenient time.
International study options are also available. For instance, students may go abroad for a full term at one of 31 partner schools in countries such as China, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Global practicum courses give students a chance to immerse themselves into a different culture while going deeper into an academic topic for one to two weeks. In addition, in the Doing Business Internationally (DBI) intensive program, which acts as a hybrid of the international exchange program and a global practicum course, students spend a week or two in a foreign country to gain specific knowledge about conducting business there. Lastly, Global Consulting Projects give students the option of working with organizations such as Human Rights Watch to improve entrepreneurship opportunities abroad. Students have previously completed these projects in Nigeria, Myanmar, Malawi, and Tanzania.
