Overview

The SMU Cox Online MBA program allows working professionals to pursue an MBA with the flexibility of an online format. The 24-month program includes a four-day domestic or global immersion experience. Many of the enrolled students in the SMU Cox Online MBA program hold an undergraduate business degree and have an average of 8.25 years of work experience. Classes are taught live on Zoom by the same faculty that teaches the full-time SMU Cox MBA program.

Curriculum

Students can begin the 52-credit SMU Cox Online MBA program in the Spring, Summer, or Fall terms. Each term is split into two seven-week-long modules—Module A and Module B, with some courses running throughout the entire term and some courses ending after one module. Students should expect to spend 15-20 hours per week attending courses and completing course assignments. The curriculum is made up of core courses and electives, with elective courses taken in the second half of the program. Some examples of core courses offered are Financial Accounting, Managerial Finance, and Strategic Cost Analysis. Classes generally meet once a week for an hour and a half. During a student’s final year in the program, they will attend a four-day domestic or international immersion trip worth two credits. 

Class Profile

The average cohort size for the SMU Cox Online MBA program is 30, with an average student age of 34. 42 percent of the class is female, 39 percent are students from an underrepresented U.S. minority group, and 16 percent of students are veterans or active-duty military members. The average student work experience is 8.25 years. In terms of undergraduate degrees, about 41 percent of the class studied business, 12 percent studied the liberal arts, and 12 percent studied engineering. 

Careers

Students enrolled in the SMU Cox Online MBA program have access to one-on-one career coaching, both during the program and after graduation. Career development opportunities include personal assessments, designing a LinkedIn profile, creating networking strategies, career planning, resume writing, interview preparation, and developing salary negotiation skills. Additionally, students in the program have access to the 42,000 person SMU Cox alumni network.

Tuition, Scholarships, and Financial Aid

The total tuition cost for the SMU Cox Online MBA program is $102,516.  This is composed of $100,516 in tuition ($1,933 per credit hour for 52 credits) and a $2000 immersion fee. Applicants are automatically considered for merit scholarships, and about 60 percent of students receive some merit-based aid. To receive federal loans for tuition costs, applicants should complete the FAFSA form. Private loans may also be used to cover tuition costs. Through the Yellow Ribbon program, eligible veterans and military members have full tuition costs covered by SMU Cox. The school also notes that some employers may cover some of the cost of attending the Online MBA program at SMU Cox.
