Couldn't change majors in my uni, and as a result didn't really study at all. Had a great time though. My WE has a lot of growth, went from analyst > senior analyst > skipped to senior management > regional management Activities outside of work: Mountaineering, basketball, billiards, table tennis. I am really into music (particularly old & new school hip-hop and R&B) and would love to learn music production later in life, when I actually have more time. dogtown2012 Likes Earned: 0 Thanks for your comment - I’ll try to include everything below: My career pivot, to be succinct, is because of my lifelong goal to make a positive impact in the world and my community. This is why I went into the law and why I became a prosecutor in the first place. Over time, however, I felt like there were many problems I wasn’t capable of solving in my role (including the many systemic problems that led individuals to be wrapped up in my cases). Instead, my impact was fairly limited in the sense that I could only punish - problem is, that only addressed past conduct (and mistakes). I want to be more proactive. That’s why I’ve pursued the pivot and social impact / nonprofit work. I believe businesses are in a unique and influential position to address some of our society’s larger problems (in concert with the public-sector), and I want to help achieve that vision. In terms of extras - pretty limited for most of my career, on account of the time demands of my job. In undergrad, I was in leadership positions for two years in my fraternity. In law school, I was executive chair of the mock trial student group. I competed on my law school’s national mock trial team (and won several competitions at my law school as well). As a lawyer, I received pro-bono awards while in private practice, providing well over 100 hours per year of pro bono work representing incarcerated individuals in various matters. For the last 8 months, I have been a volunteer coach with a nonprofit locally that provides mentorship, training, and education to help aspiring entrepreneurs from historically underserved communities (and previously incarcerated individuals) launch their businesses. dogtown2012 Likes Earned: 0 Yes, I have applied to all of these schools in R1 this year, so applications are already in. I did not apply to Stanford primarily because of the location and where I want to end up long-term. My entire family lives in the northeast, and I want to be closer to them. My wife's family is in the midwest as well, and we want to be closer to our parents as they get older and be able to visit with them more consistently. I also had concerns about the cost of living at Stanford (which is also why I avoided applying to NYC schools). That said, I am considering applying there in R2 if R1 does not go well, and have a few other schools that I was considering there as well. Do you think my profile fits Stanford well? Also, I initially eliminated some of the other M7s that have a more "finance" reputation (Booth, Columbia, MIT) and other schools like NYU for the same reason. I'm just not sure if my profile would make much sense at those places, so I tried to target programs that would be more in-line with my career goals. Wharton would be another good target program, especially with a health care focus, Kellogg and Fuqua too.

I'm pretty sure I saw your initial post (a couple times) over on LiveWire, where you indicated a lower ugrad GPA (3.0), and that this '3.6' listed above is your grad GPA? In any case, my hope is that your numbers are strong enough, despite a lower-than-average ugrad GPA. The GMAT and grad school performance should counter the 3.0 a bit.

You indicate that you are in Canada. I presume this means you are a Canadian citizen? I ask because I am trying to discern whether or not you are over-represented; for instance there are a lot of South Asian engineers (of Indian or Pakistani origin) applying to top b-schools, and a subset of them have worked in Canada, etc. No matter what your background is, one of the key things to be aware of as an engineer is the potential to be labeled as 'technical/good with numbers, not with people'. As such, your recommendations, and milestones at work should ideally demonstrate your leadership and management potential.

Finally, beyond your academics and career to date, I'll echo Alex's questions here about your outside activities. These will be important in terms of giving your candidacy some character and showing the admissions teams that you will play an active role on campus.

All of your targets are arguably top-10 programs with a high bar for admission. You may want to think about adjusting this list based on outcomes (if you applied to some in the first round), in case you aren't getting the results you seek. Best of luck and thanks for your post!
